Dia de los Muertos

Today is Día de los Muertos and South Elementary students have been exploring the beautiful Mexican tradition (Day of the Dead), a special celebration honoring and remembering loved ones who have passed away. South Librarian Tiffany Harkins teamed up with the Museum of Texas Tech University to bring this rich cultural tradition to life through a hands-on learning experience! Students learned about the history, meaning, and colorful traditions of Día de los Muertos before decorating their very own sugar skulls! What a wonderful way to help students appreciate different cultures, celebrate traditions, and discover that learning goes far beyond the pages of a book! Thank you to the Museum of Texas Tech University and Mrs. Harkins for making this meaningful cultural experience possible for our students and for helping students find their place!
