Bluebonnet Readers

Are you old enough to remember trying to solve the Rubik's Cube? Our elementary librarians take pride in promoting the Texas Bluebonnet Books Reading Program each year. Texas Library Associaiton gives a choice of 20 books each year, and students must read five of them in order to cast a vote in the statewide program. South Elementary kids were caught starting this program with Librarian Mrs. Tiffany Harkins. The first Texas Bluebonnet nominated book they experienced was "Erno Rubik and His Magic Cube" written by Kerry Aradhya and illustrated by Kara Kramer. After reading they discussed how Erno solved his problem by adding a mechanical core to make his cubes move. Students took the AR test for the book as well as participated in STEM stations using tangrams, 3D shapes and Rubik's cubes. They enjoyed their first Texas Bluebonnet read aloud, and they are looking forward to reading four more choices before voting in January! Thank you Mrs. Harkins for your awesome programming to turn kids on to reading!
