Martin Luther King Day

LISD had school today and is so proud they did. This was the perfect day to focus on Martin Luther King and what he did to advance Civil Rights. Students throughout the district learned about MLK today. Mr. King was influential in organizing boycotts, marches, sit-ins, and political rallies for civil rights. In 1963 King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. King died on April 4, 1968, when James Earl Ray assassinated him in Memphis, Tennessee. South students visiting the library today listened to Mrs. Toney read a Martin Luther King book, experienced the lesson on different colored eggs, and how you are the same on the inside no matter your skin color. Mrs. Combs' students also listened to a book on MLK and then wrote how they were going to "let their light shine."  All these lessons prove that having school on Martin Luther King Day was so worth it! Thank you, South teachers, for always helping your students learn and think out of the box!
