Future Chefs

Each year, LISD Sodexo Cafeteria Services hosts the Future Chef's Challenge and this year was no different. We know that it's never too early to start teaching students how to make healthy food choices, master basic cooking skills, and engage in a little friendly competition. LISD elementary students were invited to submit dessert recipes this year. The recipes are then judged & 3 competitors from Capitol & South are chosen to compete in the Future Chefs Challenge. This year Aly Holly, a South fourth-grader was chosen with her Red Velvet Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting. The recipes were judged on taste, healthiness, kid-friendliness, originality, ease of preparation, plate presentation, and student chef presentations to the judges. It was a tough decision, but the winner was Hayes Howard's banana nut bread this year. What a great way to showcase our students’ creativity, skills and initiative! Thank you to Steve Croyle, our cafeteria managers, and our Judges for helping make this event a huge success!
