It’s never too early to start teaching students how to make healthy food choices, master basic cooking skills, and engage in a little friendly competition. Our LISD Sodexo Cafeteria services is doing just that through the Future Chefs Challenge! LISD Food Management & Manager Steve Croyle and our Cafeteria Managers are helping students practice their culinary skills through the Future Chefs Challenge. Students were invited to submit side-dish recipes each year. The recipes are then judged & 1 competitor from Capitol, South & LIS are chosen to compete in the Future Chefs Challenge. The three competitors chosen this year were LIS fourth-grader Geraldine Rosales with her fruit cocktail, Capitol third-grader Sophia Lopez with her corn salad, and South third-grader Alli Montemayor with her strawberry salad. The recipes were judged on taste, healthiness, kid-friendliness, originality, ease of preparation, plate presentation, and student chef presentations to the judges. It was a tough decision, but the winner was Geraldine Rosales this year. What a great way to showcase our students’ creativity, skills and initiative! Thank you to Steve Croyle, our cafeteria managers, and our Judges for helping make this event a huge success!
